    History of the Organization

This January we are celebrating our 21st season as an AAU provider for girls basketball in Western Pennsylvania.  We are one of the longest running AAU programs in the Pittsburgh area.  Over the years many of our athletes have gone on to play college basketball.

The Mission of Steal City AAU

This program is designed to give girls the opportunity to grow not only as players but also as young women. Our mission is to provide a positive and encouraging environment for girls to develop their basketball skills. Our coaches are teacher’s first that provide quality instruction to develop the fundamental skills of all players. Our mission is to provide a safe quality-learning environment for all participants.

    Under New Direction

This year we are operating under the direction of Christina Thomas and Gus Costa.
Our event locations have changed from Carlow Univeristy to Avonworth MS/HS gymnasiums.

    Christina Thomas

She has been involved with the Steal City AAU Club since the spring of 2004.  She graduated from Avonworth high school in 2002.  After graduating from high school she became a PIAA certified referee. She then attended Carlow University for 4 years and played on the Women's Basketball Team.  While attending Carlow, she was all conference honorable mention, and a standing captian for 3 years.  She set a few school records during her 4 years.  Since graduating with a Biology teaching degree, she has been a part of coaching staff at Carlow University helping with recruiting players to the program.  During her time with Steal City she coached a team for 4 years, and then took on a more administrative role in the program after getting married and having her son.

    Gus Costa

Gus Costa is married and has five daughters and a grandson. His playing experience was at Central Catholic High School and various competitive leagues until the age of thirty. He has been coaching basketball for thirty years. Thirteen of those years has been with boys and seventeen with girls. He has coached various age levels and won multiple championships. Gus has been a certified PIAA High school basketball official for ten years. He has enjoyed watching his daughters as well as several of his other players meet great success. The unique aspect that Gus brings to Steal City is that, he has the perspective, from the player's, coach's, referee's and most importantly the parent's viewpoint.
